There’s never a good time for your car’s air conditioning to stop working, but discovering a problem just before a holiday road trip can be especially inconvenient. If your AC is taking longer to cool the cabin, blowing warm air or making unusual noises, booking a check early can help identify problems before they become urgent repairs.

Your vehicle’s air conditioning system uses a compressor, condenser, evaporator, refrigerant and other components to remove heat and moisture from cabin air. The blower then circulates the cooled air through the cabin.

A problem with any part of this system can affect cooling performance. Low refrigerant, leaks, a restricted cabin/pollen filter, electrical faults, a failing compressor or cooling fan problems can all produce similar symptoms.

Don't wait until the system stops working completely. Arrange an inspection if you notice:

The air takes longer than usual to become cold

The system makes clicking, rattling or unusual noises

The compressor repeatedly cycles on and off

A warm A/C system isn't necessarily just a matter of needing refrigerant. A leak or mechanical or electrical fault may be responsible, and simply adding refrigerant without finding the cause may not solve the problem.

If you're planning a long trip from Molendinar or around the Gold Coast, don't leave an A/C check until the last minute. Booking early gives the workshop more opportunity to diagnose faults, identify leaks and determine whether repairs or component replacement are required before you travel.

The Gold Coast's warm, humid conditions can make a functioning A/C system particularly important for driver comfort and demisting. A healthy system can also help maintain a more comfortable cabin when stuck in summer traffic.

An often-overlooked fact: your A/C system doesn't only cool the cabin. It also helps remove moisture from the air, making it useful for clearing condensation from the windscreen.

What Should You Do Before Holiday Travel?

Use the A/C periodically throughout the year, keep the cabin air filter maintained and have unusual smells, noises or changes in cooling performance checked promptly. Most importantly, book your pre-holiday A/C check early rather than waiting for a breakdown during your trip.
