There’s never a good time for your car’s air conditioning to stop working, but discovering a problem just before a holiday road trip can be especially inconvenient. If your AC is taking longer to cool the cabin, blowing warm air or making unusual noises, booking a check early can help identify problems before they become urgent repairs. What Does Your Car’s A/C System Do? Your vehicle’s air conditioning system uses a compressor, condenser, evaporator, refrigerant and other components to remove heat and moisture from cabin air. The blower then circulates the cooled air through the cabin.

A problem with any part of this system can affect cooling performance. Low refrigerant, leaks, a restricted cabin/pollen filter, electrical faults, a failing compressor or cooling fan problems can all produce similar symptoms. Warning Signs Your A/C Needs Attention Don't wait until the system stops working completely. Arrange an inspection if you notice: The air takes longer than usual to become cold The A/C only becomes cool while driving Airflow from the vents is weak The system makes clicking, rattling or unusual noises There is an unusual smell from the vents The A/C works intermittently The compressor repeatedly cycles on and off A warm A/C system isn't necessarily just a matter of needing refrigerant. A leak or mechanical or electrical fault may be responsible, and simply adding refrigerant without finding the cause may not solve the problem. What Should You Do Before Holiday Travel? If you're planning a long trip from Molendinar or around the Gold Coast, don't leave an A/C check until the last minute. Booking early gives the workshop more opportunity to diagnose faults, identify leaks and determine whether repairs or component replacement are required before you travel.

The Gold Coast's warm, humid conditions can make a functioning A/C system particularly important for driver comfort and demisting. A healthy system can also help maintain a more comfortable cabin when stuck in summer traffic.

An often-overlooked fact: your A/C system doesn't only cool the cabin. It also helps remove moisture from the air, making it useful for clearing condensation from the windscreen. Prevent Air Con Problems Use the A/C periodically throughout the year, keep the cabin air filter maintained and have unusual smells, noises or changes in cooling performance checked promptly. Most importantly, book your pre-holiday A/C check early rather than waiting for a breakdown during your trip.

As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre member, the team can help prepare your vehicle for comfortable and reliable holiday travel. Car Air Con Service FAQs How early should I have my A/C checked before a holiday? Ideally, book several weeks before travelling, particularly before the busy holiday period. This allows time for diagnosis and any repairs that may be required. Why does my A/C get cold while driving but warm when stationary? This can indicate an issue with airflow across the condenser, such as a cooling fan problem, although other faults can produce similar symptoms. An inspection is recommended. Can low refrigerant damage the A/C system? Low refrigerant may indicate a leak and can affect system operation. Continuing to operate an A/C system with a fault may place additional stress on components such as the compressor. Why does my car smell musty when I turn the A/C on? Moisture, bacteria, mould or contamination around the evaporator or cabin filter can contribute to unpleasant smells. The source should be identified rather than simply masking the odour. Should I run my car's A/C during winter? Yes. Periodic operation can help keep the system's components and seals lubricated and provides an opportunity to notice developing faults before summer.

Heading away for the holidays? Driven Autocare in Molendinar can inspect your car A/C early for cooling issues, leaks and faults before you travel.

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Driven Autocare in Molendinar, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Driven Autocare, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Driven Autocare for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

When most drivers think about vehicle safety, they often focus on brakes and tyres. However, your suspension system plays an equally important role in maintaining comfort, handling, stability and control. Whether you drive a passenger vehicle, 4WD, ute, van or light commercial vehicle, a healthy suspension system helps keep your tyres firmly connected to the road while absorbing bumps, vibrations and impacts.

At Driven Autocare in Molendinar, our experienced technicians provide professional suspension inspections, repairs and upgrades for all makes and models. As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, we help drivers maintain safe, comfortable and reliable vehicles suited to Australian driving conditions. What Does a Vehicle Suspension System Do? Your vehicle's suspension system is a combination of components designed to support the vehicle's weight, absorb road shocks and maintain tyre contact with the road surface. Key suspension components include: Shock absorbers Struts Springs Control arms Ball joints Bushings Sway bars and links Together, these components help deliver a smooth ride while improving steering response, braking performance and overall vehicle stability. Signs Your Suspension May Need Attention Suspension components naturally wear over time due to constant exposure to road impacts, heat, dust and changing weather conditions. Ignoring these symptoms can affect vehicle safety and may lead to additional wear on other components. Common warning signs include: Excessive bouncing after hitting bumps Vehicle pulling to one side Uneven or accelerated tyre wear Clunking, knocking or rattling noises Poor steering response Nose-diving when braking Vehicle leaning excessively when cornering Reduced ride comfort What Other Vehicle Systems Can Be Affected? A worn suspension system doesn't just impact comfort. It can place additional stress on several other vehicle systems, including: Tyres Poor suspension geometry can cause uneven tyre wear, reducing tyre life and compromising grip. Steering Components Excessive movement from worn suspension parts can accelerate wear in steering racks, tie rod ends and other steering components. Braking System When suspension performance declines, braking distances can increase because the tyres struggle to maintain optimal road contact. Wheel Alignment Worn suspension parts often affect wheel alignment angles, leading to handling issues and increased tyre wear. Considering a Suspension Upgrade? Suspension upgrades can be beneficial for many drivers, particularly those who regularly tow, carry heavy loads or travel on rough roads.

Popular suspension upgrades include: Heavy-duty shock absorbers Upgraded springs Lift kits for suitable 4WD applications Load-carrying suspension solutions Improved towing setups A professionally selected suspension upgrade can improve ride control, vehicle stability and load management while ensuring the vehicle remains suitable for its intended use. Suspension and Australian Driving Conditions Vehicles operating around Molendinar and throughout Queensland face unique challenges. High temperatures, heavy rainfall events, potholes, corrugated rural roads and frequent towing can all contribute to suspension wear.

4WDs and commercial vehicles often experience additional stress from carrying equipment, tools or recreational gear. Regular suspension inspections help identify developing issues before they become serious safety concerns. Many drivers are surprised to learn that shock absorbers can gradually lose effectiveness without showing obvious signs of failure. Because wear often occurs slowly over thousands of kilometres, drivers frequently adapt to declining ride quality without realising how much vehicle control has been lost. A professional suspension inspection can often reveal performance issues that aren't immediately noticeable from behind the wheel. Tips to Extend Suspension Life Preventative maintenance is usually far more affordable than repairing damage caused by neglected suspension components. You can help maximise suspension component life by: Having your suspension inspected during routine servicing Maintaining correct tyre pressures Avoiding potholes where possible Reducing speed on rough roads Not exceeding vehicle load limits Having wheel alignments checked regularly Addressing unusual noises promptly Suspension FAQ How often should suspension components be inspected? Suspension components should be visually inspected during every routine service. More comprehensive inspections are recommended if you regularly tow, travel off-road or drive on rough roads. Can worn shock absorbers affect fuel economy? Yes. Poor suspension performance can increase rolling resistance and tyre wear, which may contribute to reduced fuel efficiency over time. Is wheel alignment the same as suspension repair? No. Wheel alignment adjusts wheel angles, while suspension repairs address worn or damaged mechanical components. However, suspension issues often affect alignment settings. Can suspension upgrades improve towing stability? In many cases, yes. Correctly selected suspension upgrades can help manage additional loads and improve vehicle stability when towing. Will suspension problems trigger a dashboard warning light? Not always. Many suspension issues develop mechanically and may not generate warning lights, making regular inspections particularly important. Trust Driven Autocare for Suspension Repairs and Upgrades Whether your vehicle needs replacement shock absorbers, suspension repairs, load-carrying improvements or a complete suspension upgrade, the team at Driven Autocare in Molendinar can help.
